Lyby Strand

Introduction

North of Lyby Strand, part of an old clay layer is visible. Bryozoans, small shells, and shark teeth lie hidden in this clay from the Oligocene, about 25 million years old. You can also find crab balls here. Crab balls are hard gray round "balls" that may contain fossil crabs. The balls are very hard and you need to break them with a sturdy (geologist's) hammer.

It's a frequently visited location, so the chances of finding something are small. In the few hours we were there, we found two shells. The fossils found here are relatively young compared to other sites, but still millions of years old.
