Mors Molergrav
Denmark
Introduction
On Mors, next to the Fossil and Mo-clay Museum (museummors.dk) there is a quarry where stone is still being extracted. These stones are crushed into cat litter and the quarry is basically one big litter box (but without the nasty smells)…
For a fee, which includes a visit to the fossil museum, you can search here for fossils for your own collection. Fish, shark teeth, crabs and other marine animals can be found here. Below you can see some fossils we found.
The stones are not very easy to split. Young children need some help from an adult and tools (such as a chisel, hammer and palette knife) are needed to find fossils. A geologist's hammer can be rented from the museum (while supplies last).
Geological period
Tertiary
2.6–66 million years ago
When the dinosaurs were gone, mammals and birds took over. Monkeys appeared, grasslands spread, and animals like horses, elephants, and great apes showed up in a cooler world.
